You went to see the grunions too? I went out to witness this "family activity" on vacation in San Diego. I wasn't notified of the orgy status of this event. It was horrendous; I will never get the sight, sound, and consistency of the "milt", as you put it, out of my head.

I went out to see an event in the real reality of real life that would make furries cringe. High five.

The live-action TV bits, I believe were an homage to "Modern Times." It was Chaplin's first talkie, but the only dialog you hear comes from TV screens and speakers. It was Chaplin's way of saying, "You win, sound is the future, but I don't have to like it." And of course, the movie is about a lonely man getting caught up in an increasingly industrial society.
Wall*E makes a good bookmark to that, since society has become completely mechanized, and cut off from reality. So the screens in Wall*E are Stanton's way of saying, "Hey, forget digital effects! Wasn't it nice when movies depended on actual acting?"
And the people, so cut off from reality that their feet never even touch the ground, become less real than the information they constantly consume.
That's how I see it. These are the things that keep me up at night.

I was hoping George Carlin would have died on Life Support, especially after his <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzR8WZw-iQU" rel="nofollow">"Don't Pull The Plug On Me"</a> bit.

[SPOILER-ISH-NESS FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT SEEN WALL-E]

It was mentioned that human's bone structures would deteriorate thanks to micro-gravity--but maybe not just bone structure changed, but general physical appearances changed too, making them "pudgy Incredibles". With all the pictures of the captains, it sure did look as such. I know you said it was just a minor complaint, but to me it makes sense for the plot of the movie.
