NEXT PAGE: Tuesday, September 11th.
I get that “Oh.” reaction a lot from people.
Them: “Oh, I ah, I thought you where gay.”
Me: *laughs* “No, that’s alright. It’s almost as amusing as when people think I’m straight.”
I really like how these last three pages ‘move.’ Having pages with really dramatic artwork is great, but they tend to not have room for moving the plot along. That’s why I like pages like these just as much: they may not be as visually stunning but you get to know the plot and the characters more which is just as much fun. Whoot!
Is Sera reading a text? So does Maddie think Sera and Tess are an item? That might make things awkward.
I think she is asking the assistant chick how she got her relationship started.
That makes much more sense.
In this comic I tend to associate “super-tall girl” with our resident sasquatch.
Hehe, I notice that Sera got a new phone. Is it an ectoplasmic iphone?
Experiance has thought me that whatever you write you’re gonna be extremly embarrassed about it. Whatever you do Sera don’t suggest a resturang of any kind. Thats a big mistake. Believe me…..
Man, I hope Mandy will suggest going to a bar. Not expecting Sera to drink but I really wanna see her in that enviorment.
“Hard to escape if things go wierd”. Classic.
Maybe the assistant/babysitter has a crush on Sera, it’s implied at the end there that she’s into the ladies as well. That might be why she started shouting Spanish naughties.
The look on Crawlsie’s face (is her name really Crawlsie? :/) in the last panel, that “aww you adorable awkward duckling, some day you’re going to be a graceful swan” look… that is just what I feel for Sera in this situation. Just text her! You sweet, shy little thing! Maddy already basically asked you out, you just have to set the time and place.
Still not quite sure I understand the swearing from last page. Maybe she does have a crush on Sera? Maybe I’m misinterpreting awkward-duckling face and it’s really secret-crush face? For some reason the news that Sera had a date was cause for serious jump-out-of-your-seat alarm. What’s that about?
Crawlsie is an assistant! She’s just happy in the last panel because she gets to assist Sera! She already has a GF, eh?
Perhaps the swearing was more of a surprised reaction than an angry one? Sera is in her early 20′s and she’s never been in any kind of relationship, so for her drop the ‘I have a date’ bomb, I’d imagine most people would shout ‘HOLY CRAPBALLS!’ or something of the like.
I know lesbians are trying to get popular in other media, but I don’t want Sera to become one. But if that’s where this is going I don’t care I’m still gonna buy the book when it comes out.
I think Sera has always been one…
Lesbians will be popular in “other media” for as long as straight men think it’s hot to watch two hot girls make out. Twice the boobies!
Thats an really odd statment. “I know lesbians are trying to get popular in other media”,Thats one huge generalization of a group of people. Besides I would say that the “fantasy-lesbian” with 2 hot chicks doing stuff made by males it’s what comes in a lot of media. Which is really far fetch from reality.
Aaand as Claire said, it was really hinted at since the first book. Personally I think this is something Sera has yet to decide what she wants.
Cool homophobia you’ve got there. Real classy.
Also Sera has been gay since book one. Lrn2reading comprehension.
We here at Heart-Shaped Skull are proud to be part of the “getting popular in other media” part of the Gay Agenda. March on, my rainbow soldiers!
fuck off nobody likes you
Easy dere mon, you can’t fight intolerance with intolerance.
naw, I’m pretty sure you shouldn’t have to tolerate people who can’t be bothered to tolerate you.
People “don’t have to take it”, but run screaming random insults against predjuiced like that is sinking yourself lower. Besides for the really predjuiced people that would be like saying “yes, you’re right good sir!”.
But if if you think that sort of comment add anything to conversations, then I would really like to recommend reading comments on youtube.
But you can fight social stupidity with social ostracization. I don’t see any reason to be kind to the sort of people who talk about lesbians trying to get popular in the media, and I also don’t see any reason to state the truth of the matter – that the asshole should stop commenting because nobody wants to hear their dumb opinion about what us queers should and shouldn’t be doing.
to not state*
There’s no reason to tolerate intolerance, but yeah, “fuck off nobody likes you” probably isn’t the best strategy. Sera’s always been a bit cagey about her sexuality, so it’s not surprising that some people still think she’s straight, but I’d be curious why Jordan is BOTHERED by Sera’s lesbian-ness. If it’s because he thinks there’s a nefarious homosexual media conspiracy, that’s hysterically goofy, but maybe there’s some other reason…
Maybe Sera being gay means she no longer matches up to the image of her he’s built in his head? Like Spider-Man getting married or Jedis being filled with Midichlorians?
Maybe for him Sera is, as Tess would put it, “a big pile of wanking material” and her being gay would put a dent in that.
Would also explain why he’d still be keen on buying the book when it come out. *wink wink*
really? you don’t? why not? will that make her less like you or something? are you tired of “lesbian popularity” in other media? me too–i’d much prefer good old fashioned equal visibility, but until we have that, it’s going to have to slowly make its way into the general consciousness trend by trend. i don’t see a whole lot of androgynous goth bisexual chicks getting “popular” in other media (Lisbeth Salander notwithstanding , but that’s ok–i don’t need everything to look just like me in order to enjoy it.
so my dear, i’m pretty sure you can continue to be inspired by this awesome story about self-discovery, regret, finding your power, and finding your true friends. it’s still going to contain some of the best writing in comics today, and some of the best sequential art i’ve ever seen. (and i read Hellboy!
(and yes–Sera was revealed to be gay in Vol. 1. Maddy’s her big high school crush.)
Wow, thanks, j! I’m nowhere near Hellboy levels, but hopefully before I die I’ll get within a thousand paces, at least.
When I first heard of Lisbeth Salander I was a little worried people might start accusing me of being a ripper-offer, but it hasn’t happened yet, thankfully. They’re totally different characters, but snarkers only care about surfaces.
1. no, thank YOU for your beautiful writing and innovative layout style!
2. re: Salander–i should have been more specific. I’M the androgynous goth bi chick that i never see reflected in media, not Sera! Sera’s more the tomboyish perkigoff baby dyke type, no? hopefully she also has fewer sexual abuse and rage issues than Salander too…
3. Rubikov wants in on this gay action, you send her to me! (i was like, the super-tall girl at Dead Bettie’s! that’s Tess right???? LOL)
I don’t think Sera would appreciate that “perkigoff” crack there, j.
yikes! sorry Sera! i meant she’s cute! don’t turn me into a wad of snot! DON’T SIC TESS ON ME!!!
THIS JUST IN: CONTRARY TO POPULAR BELIEF LESBIANS AND THE REST OF THE LGBTQ COMMUNITY ARE NOT A HIVE MIND. PRETTY SURE THE ONLY SIMILAR GOAL THEY ALL HAVE IS ATTAINING EQUAL RIGHTS WORLD WIDE.
NEXT ON CAPSLOCK NEWS: WE TALK ABOUT HOW PEOPLE CAN’T “BECOME LESBIAN” BUT ARE USUALLY BORN THIS WAY.
Sera pretty much comes out in the last issue of volume one, if I recall correctly. That came out… seven and a half years ago? Nothing really new here.
No, no. She’s just becoming one now — because that’s how sexual preference works! — as part of the evil conspiracy of lesbians to get popular in “other media.” Obviously.
I think boys are cute and also read SR. Two thumbs up.
