Several varieties of flu have been referred to as "swine flu"; the pandemic of (i think) 1916 that killed more people than WWI was a swine flu, f'rinstance. That one's prolly a big part of the reason people get panicky, even though hardly anyone alive actually remembers it.

another incidence of swine flu was mid-twentieth century. i dont remember when exactly, but it is believed that people who were alive during that time period may have built up a natural resistance and thus are not considered "high priority" for the vaccine, even tho these are elderly folks.

and people who associate childhood vaccines with autism and such make me want to murder the parents who don't give their kids these valuable shots. that's right the polio vaccine is just a ploy and NOT the way we have almost completely eradicated a horribly crippling and deathly disease! :-x
(oh, i'm not saying everyone needs to get every vaccine, mind, heck *I* don't get the flu shot or swu shot... but kids need to get things like measles, mumps and rubella shots or they could get seriously ill, crippled or even die)

We had to take this six shot injection in school to see how Immune we were to something.

A week after, it still looked like they had just given me the shot. The guy was surprised at how strong my immunity was. :)

PUNY HUMAN IMMUNE SYSTEMS!

Not only do we make honey and cause irreparable wood damage, insects are immune to the virus!

Apparently even humans who have already recovered from the sickness can catch it again, as the virus mutates and evolves!

NOW I GO ENJOY AFOREMENTIONED HONEY!

Wow, 'round here it's illegal to go to college without that one. Education's *that* important.

I used to get that all the time.... went through high school without missing a single day, even tho I never bothered with the regular yearly type shots. I was pretty much immune to disease in general. The profound depression that results naturally from living in Iowa, however, has done a number on that.... last winter I got the flu *twice*. Not sure if I ever had it before.

I've been told to be more or less the same. If I do get ill, it's seriously. Most time spent away from school was a week on the end of a holiday, so bad I couldn't get out of bed without aide. Never did bother to find out what it was...

Happened to me once too, at college, Student Health diagnosed flu, but when I realized the dorm food service had been keeping the sour cream I ate the day before under a *heat lamp*, I knew better.

I had a flu that may have been swine flu, and I went back to college before I had fully recovered. The staff panicked, and I was promptly escorted to a drop in NHS centre.
