finally, the pencil and the paper are reunited!

just a little Zim-based fanart ("ten years later", like most of those i do), but I likes it. The title hit me about halfway into the drawing. i like the angularity; i think i'll try more of that.

Image

i'm practicing with Illustrator on this one & it's coming along pretty decent, i'll post that when it's more-or-less done!

p.s. yes, you have seen that t-shirt image before.....

actually, i think that's the part that triggered the "strung-out rock star" bit.... it looks wierd to me too, but so far i *think* it's the kind of wierd i'm going for....

meanwhilez, here's the shiny new Illustrator version:

may still do some hilights, shadows, gradients, tweak some points, etc.

man i've missed vector graphics!

EDIT: d'oh! And i'm generally so proud of the fact that I know how to spell "weird".....

no ink there! that be some VECTORS :D

I love Adobe Illustrator so very much.
Even through the gritting of my teeth and constant stream of obscenities,
can still be heard- the music of my love.

I really like him! :)
Vectors can be a pain in the patooty,
but it looks like you're picking Illustrator up very nicely!

The only critique on my behalf is that perhaps if you were wanting
to get across a strung-out-rock star look, then maybe a mic
(or some such) could have really pushed that theme..

There are a few proportional "hiccups" here and there,
but the whole anatomy formula is pretty exaggerated,
so it's difficult to make a definite judgment-call there..
SO, instead I will say this:
Great job! and especially in Illustrator!
although you said you'd worked in vector programs before, right?
Still, Illustrator is fickle starting out.
Keep working with it! you'll be hooked in no time,
if you're not already..:tooth:

well, I wasn't *trying" for the look per se, it just kinda *happened* and somehow seemed visually appropriate. (Literal titles are so boring, aren't they?) In general, "Dib 10 Years Later" as I imagine him is failing at the "not wanting to become a hobo" business*, though he is at least enrolled at the Membrane University of Science (go Moose!). And yes, I am now firmly re-addicted to the vector machine. Back On The Wagon, as they say.

re: anatomy, exaggerating the hell out of it is what makes it fun to me. So there  Couple more Illo pics nearing completion, one loosely based on a previous drawing & the other pretty much traced, but with licence (which I don't actually *have*, technically!)

dammit, yet another distraction from both Trollmusik *and* the Mad Contessa! Curse you, art! Curse you!

Needless to say I don't think I'll be using PSP so much for a while. PSP 7.0 is buggy as hell, wasn't paid for anyway, and really only benefitted by the better (but suddenly redundant) vector graphics over my fully licenced copy of 5.1. I'll prolly be pulling out those extra wires eventually & going back to ol' reliable for when rasturbatory work is unavoidable.

* the fingerless gloves and bearded shirt originated as nods to his "mentor" in "Taster of Pork"; sketchier renditions have been noticeably threadbare in the coat as well. I adopted the face as my avvie afterwards. Ironically, it was only *after* I learned Aaron was involved that I dove into the Zim world; before that it was just a JcV thing that I might check out some day.

More happy moments with vectors!

I'm pretty pumped on how Invader Thing here turned out.... it's based on a drawing that I'm pretty sure appeared here before; if not, look in my DevArt gallery:

Image

Here's my design for a Membrane University of Science mascot:

Image

EDIT: hmmmm, guess i'm gonna have to be careful with the transparent GIFs around here......

I also did some playing around with ways to make it look good & clear when small..... here are some attempts:

Image
here it is bigger:

any opinions?

i do likes that moose head i does!
as for the small ones and what looks clear... my picks would be top right, middle middle, left column middle, and middle bottom (although that top right one looks TERRIFIED). i think those work best because there are fewer lines as opposed to say, bottom right which has too many lines.

also, should i be concerned that gaz and dib are in love with each other??

WILL: now *why* would you just assume the "D" on Gretchen's notebook stands for "Dib"?

ANYWAYZ.....

more Illustrator-play, that's one highly absorbent program it is. And i think I have discovered the secret of the weenie.

EXAMPLES:

I'm toying with giving that last one to Invader Thing, I think he'd like it. There's a better rendition in the works, but you'll just have to enyoy this one for now.

You say you've seen that ship somewhere before? Now don't be silly ;)

and remember, always recycle your borders!

I like these ship designs. I will utilize them in the building of my UNSTOPPABLE DEATH ARMY.

...

The last one kind of looks like Boba Fett's ship! Interesting!

Also, your coloring skills are UNMATCHED.

Impending Doom III? Oh man, I am so excited for that to come out! I pre-ordered it, and have been checking my e-mail every day since.
