The contest was to create an original anime-style magical character who is based on one of the four seasons. Oh and this all had to be done WITHIN 72 HOURS. Yipes! Such a close deadline! I chose to do springtime because I immediately thought of a woman who could make plants grow as her magical ability. I envisioned her as a being of pure magic with skin yellow and glowy like sunlight. This is why I tried out a technique that I rarely use with coloured outline. I kept her overall design simple due to the time constraints, and as it is I didn't have enough time to do all of the things I wanted with this picture. I was going to add flowers in her hair and make the magic squiggles more glowing, and I probably would have tested out more colours to use as the outlines, because as it is I think I should have darkened the skin tone outline a bit. I added my Background for Dummies (tm) nature scene because her light yellow skin and the magic needed something to contrast against. I didn't win the contest, but it was a fun challenge to participate!

Here we have Ikkaku Madarame and Yumichika Ayasegawa in a hypothetical future. In present day story continuity, Ikkaku is third in command of Squad 11 and Yumichika is fifth in command. This picture envisions Ikkaku as the first in command captain (symbolised by the white jacket) and Yumichika as his second in command vice-captain (as symbolised by the badge on his left arm), because seriously, if Ikkaku were to captain WHO ELSE could possibly be his vice captain. Seriously. Also, are you checking out that background? Pretty sweet, eh? So what if it is comprised almost entirely of straight lines; that's Japanese architecture, baby! Anyway, I quite like this one. I think the characters look like themselves and the colours turned out rather nice to boot.

Real nice clothing! One minor thing that struck me as odd though is that their feets looks exactly the same. I think it would look more natrual if they were in diffrent walking poses. Not that it stands out THAT much, but when you saw it it was hard to unnotice it.

mini word post:

i got an art tablet. i have been THINKING about buying such a thing for YEARS, and finally actually did it.

i got my tax refund money and decided to get myself a present. a FANCY present. i bought a Cintiq. let me tell you, this thing was crafted by WIZARDS. i can't BELIEVE the marvelousness of using this thing. but, because of such marvelousness, i have been practically inextricably tethered to it for a few weeks now. i've been in the middle of a MASSIVE fan art project, and without the Cintiq, this thing would have been next to impossible to create. i have been using the big project as a means to learn and get used to the tablet, since i have never used one before. as a result, the pictures i have been working on later look much nicer than the earlier ones, causing me to go back and tweak the old ones. this project has been a series of 24 drawings, and now i'm down to one left. this project has had my near full attention for weeks, and as a result, have been slacking in other areas. you should see my house. someone really needs to pass a vacuum in here. i just wanted to give y'all a little info here, since i haven't been posting for a bit, not shown new art, have some CDs to mail to people now that their address are posted in another thread, etc etc, blee bloo blah. that's what's up.

this is the ALL-IN-ONE version of my Lawndale Tinies series! basically, i killed characters from the TV series Daria in the style of Edward Gorey's illustrated poem, "the Gashlycrumb Tinies." so i wrote a rhyming poem and everything. unfortunately, there is no Daria character associated with the letter "I". i even checked the fan Dariawiki page character index. nope. therefore, i had to take out another letter so that the rhyming couplet poem configuration was still intact, so there is no "F" either. you could consider this to be "fan fiction" in a sense, in that it depicts event which take place AFTER the TV series end, since all the characters in it DIE HORRIBLY.
