Secrets of Serenity Rose(possible spoliers)

Postby Rynan » Mon Jun 27, 2005 7:49 am

Well, I guess it's time to speculate, investigate and discuss about some of the mysteries of Serenity Rose: Working through the Negativity(i.e. Stilletta, the bus incident, SSI, etc.)

I am too, though I didn't think it would be something he'd have to worry about too much, what with Sera looking like a muppet and Tess being distantly related Bigfoot. Also, there hasn't been much of a focus on Sera's (or anybody's) love interests in the comic that much, and that's what I personally really like about the story: Sera's sexuality is basically moot in regards to the plot. There's no romantic angle, which I find very refreshing. It could turn out that she is a natural born lesbian and what difference would it make, she'd never express it to anybody. I like that. It makes the series more pure somehow, from a writer's point of view, it means that less attention is paid to frivolous details and that the plot is that more robust, because it HAS TO BE, in order to fill the space normally taken up by love interaction and sexual tension and romantic interest that every story and their cousin seem to feature at some point in their storyline.
And as for the bus incident, that was more because her father had recently died than sensitivity to the nature of the sick prank those kids played. How would you feel if your father had just died and some little shit decided to get their kicks by going out of their way to embarass and humiliate you? I get pissed anytime someone does that period, and I haven't lost anybody close to me in a long time. If I were in her position, I'd have snapped too.

Why do I get the feeling that no one's gonna touch this topic now that I've weighed in on it?

...there was a pause. Serenity looked into her lover's eyes and they both knew it was the time. She silently said " I love you", then...Rynan tried to resurect the topic.

*attempts to resurect topic*

This is a touchy subject.

No offense to anyone, but I think Sera's sexuality is up in the air right now. Remember, Vicous, the giant opinative chatterbox that she is, came to that conclusion and until I get any collaborating evidence, other than the letter that went up in smoke, I won't rush to judgement. I'm going to wait until Arron comes out with his "New, once-a-year Comic", whenever that will be.

But

I think she's more curious than commited. After all, she was going through a hard time during the period of the bus incident, her Dad was dead, so she was left alone with her step-mother and step-sister. Tess got an asshole boyfriend, leaving her even more alone. Maybe she was looking for belonging, freindship.

But

This stuff get vaguer and vaguer the more you examine it. Some of her statements appear that she is Lesbian, but others don't. Your left wondering "What the hell is Sera looking for?". It's confusing. Which is why I'm waiting for the Once-a-year comic to come out.

I can deduce a lot of things, but this thing I'll leave the author to reveal.

the romantic business is not important in here, it might be revealed sera's sexual orientation, but it wont be THAT important.

and... lets wait till the Once-a-year comic arrives to rediagnostic sera's humanbeing situation

That's another thing to discuss: Is Sera human?

"Is Sera human?"
Now that's a good question.
I'd have to say technically no, but when you really look at her, yes.
She's definitely a person, and an individual, but if someone told me to classify her I'd have to say she's a different species than homo sapien. Technically.
Anyway, she feels human enough to me, that's what matters.

::wanders back into the forum, freshly pasta-d from her journeys in Italia::

What a lovely topic!^^

Ehm...first off, I don't think SR has the kind of fanbase that would even THINK of making a romantic fanfic about Sera...that's more left to the JtHM fans. O_o

As for her sexuality...I think Aaron did a brilliant job of really making it not matter. I mean, Sera really doesn't seem like anything, and her having certain inclinations doesn't really change a thing about how I think of the character. Except that it adds more explaination to her confused-ness, and that outburst in...what, 4, was it? I think so...
