the last movie you saw?

Postby mars » Fri Feb 06, 2004 11:56 am

yeah..a variation of the "now playing" thread..

but the last two movies i saw are worth shouting about..
(and i havn't started a thread in a while)

first up..
big fish.
i think everything i could say about this movie has already been said a million times..
but i havn't seen a movie that's made me so..happy in as long as i can remember..
just awsome

then not long after that i saw:

lost in translation
i'd not heard anything about this before i saw it..
which is probably the best way to see a film like this..

it's beautifull and funny in a simple realistic way i don't see enough on screen. it is wonderfull.

(i'm surprised to hear that bill murray is up for an oscar for it tho,
since he just seems to be playing himself..
and he's bound to be good at that :P)

ok..your turn peoples..
the last movie you saw?..

...you know, I honestly can't remember the last time I went to the cinema. I'm part of a Film Studies course and a Film Society, so I tend to see all the films I could ever desire to watch without needing to so much as leave University grounds.

I need to get out more often...

Snatch actually

Postby Penthius » Sat Feb 07, 2004 12:19 am

I spent a decent evening with friends, sitting in a dorm room, watching the movie Snatch. While not exactly citizen Kane, it's still a really good movie. Speaking of movies, go out and find Jesus christ vampire hunter: the musical, right now. Go, find it, watch it, feel amazing glee, laugh, then don't watch it again because it's terrible, but that one time you watch it, viciously mock it, and it will be terrific.

HELL yeah. It has all the feel of a student film, shot with a 16mm Bolex. Plus -- it's CANADIAN.

For extra hilarity, be sure to take in the awesomeness that is the "Harry Knuckles" "preview" included on the disc.

And I'll have you know that it does, indeed, hold up upon repeat viewings. I mean, you have to show it to all your friends, right?

In theature: LOTR: Return of the King (good, but long)
In Home: Virus (Wow, what a piece of high production crap, yet oddly satisfying)

JC Vamp hunter, eh?

~- da movies are on fire! -~

Postby Absinthe » Mon Feb 09, 2004 3:59 pm

hmm.
Theaters: The Last Samurai -twice-
(seriously hoping Ken Watanabe picks up the Best Supporting Actor Oscar.. he won't.. but it'd be nice..)
DVD: Live action- SFW (Reese Witherspoon and Stephen Dorff, as jaded late-teens... *le sigh*)
Anime- Neon Genesis Evangelion (mainly because someone begged me to watch it (i usually abhor 'overly popular anime', but meh.. this time they were right.. and it is good.. in Japanese anyhow..)
Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder, and the stomach go swirly, and usually ends in a white ceramic phone-call to the powers that be.

sys~9642.3--beautiful...

Postby Relenz » Tue Feb 10, 2004 9:48 pm

The most recent film I have had the honor of seeing was "CUBE".

For me, it is great entertainment to observe people dying of their own accord simply because they cannot solve so simple a puzzle...

I understand a sequel is coming out. I hope that it continues in a similar vein.

NEGATIVE! NEGATIVE!

ABORT MISSION! I REPEAT, ABORT.

Hypercube (The sequal) is to cube as orange-rind is to orange. If you REALLY want to scrape what's left from the bottom of the barrle, watch it, but don't say I didn't warn you.

Edit: (The following should be sung to the Theme of Mystery Science Theature 3000)

In the not to distant future,
In a City dark and grim,
There lived a man with a cold dark heart,
Everybody called him Quinn.
A average joe who took some lives,
He was a crazy bro who wanted to beat up wives,
His partner didn't like his face
So they sent his sleeping body to a creepy metal place!
*I'll get you!!!*

We'll send him to a death Cube,
The worse we can find.
*La La La*
we'll get some moron folks involved and we'll monitor his mind.
*La La La*
Now keep in mind Quinn can't control where the traps begin or end.
*La La La*
Because he used those special part to kill his other cube friends!

Death-trap Roll-call!
ACID!
SLICER!
FLAME THROWER!
SPIIIIIIKE!

You may wonder how they eat or breath, and other science facts,
Just repeat to yourself "It's a cube of death." You should really just relax.

Oh mystery Science Death-Cube 3000!

Last seen at four o' clock in the morning at home: "Das Experiment".

VERY loosely based on the infamous "Stanford Prison Experiment". Disturbing stuff.

We we're going to watch "Das Experiment" at my old school... but then we didn't and watched "American History X" instead.

That one was really good too though.

American History X is a great movie, but left me very disturbed (And that's saying something).

I just saw the first DVD of Kino's Journey, That was some awesome philisophical Anime. Good story telling, too.
