Hey!

Does anyone know of/like the artist Foo Swee Chin (aka FSC) ?

She did the art for the earlier "Nightmares and Fairytales" comics....
Serena Valentino made great stories as well......
they worked together so well.....
what happened to that team-up?

Is FSC working on anything right now?

FSC is a lady-type? I never knew that.

I bought Chimney Number 25 a couple of years ago, but I've bnever seen anything else floating about on the Indie Rack in my comic shop.

I absolutely love her art! :D
It's so wispy and dark, and soft and feminine.

The story line about the nuns is my favourite that she illustrated.

And she's such a total sweetheart. Really shy, but so sweet.

are you talking about the third Nms & Fts issue?
The one where it explains why Dominique's a "vampire"?
I love that one too :)
my fav would have to be issue 7 about 'Paige' and 'Augustine' where the story's set in the 20's...I'm not sure why....but I love things about the 20's...esp drawn characters that are dressed in the flapper dresses..^_^

Ohmigosh, I forgot about that one with Paige.

Though, a lot of my love for that comes from Serena's writing, FSc's art was essential to that plotline. I can't see it with anything else.

Ooooh, also.
The re-telling of Cinderella. Amazing. FSc did a wonderful job disturbing me out of my shorts with some of the imagery.

And frankly, the very first storyline, with the little girl, and the monsters, and the closet, and the old lady with tea...-shudder- That's what got me hooked.
It gave me CHILLS. And I had to sleep with the lights on.

lol. yea..I really enjoy Serena's writing....although it seems like ever since Serena and FSc stopped working together....Ms. Valentino's stories have been kinda.......meh... :\
take for instance the newer Nightmares and Fairytales, Camilla d’Errico's art as well as Crab Scrambly's work.....
the stories....as well as the art.....just don't quite compare to the FSc/Serena pair up... they just seemed to work so flawlessly together..

Image

I loved all of the fairytale adaptations FSc and Serena created...(snow white, beauty and the beast, cinderella, red riding hood) I especially loved Beauty and the Beast b/c of how they also incorporated Rose (sleeping beauty) into it..
-which is also why I don't like that Serena did another adaptation of sleeping beauty w/ a different artist.- ...although that one really didn't have much to do with sleeping beauty, that I can remember..... :?

Ah. yes. Gwen and Aunt Bea....that is issue #5, I believe, when they first show up...
I got all blubbery-emotional from how her parents treated her.....and really liked Aunt Bea a lot...^_^
Gwen's great and I love how Annabelle tells her stories that are so NOT child-appropriate. lol.

Oooh, read the first two Nightmares and Fairytales books. Really liked them.

Like her way of drawing, it looks simpel in a way that she might just have drawned it instantly on a paper, yet has a huge amount of details.

I know! I've been to her site and looked at her sketches....it looks like she draws A LOT and has developed a style that she can dish out in no time...it's a very confident style....which makes her very interesting to me b/c the way she writes about herself is completely different..(she seems like she's low in self confidence)

most of those, including MuZz but not de sketchitoes, are part of her ongoing but very irregular series that's generally just known as "FsC". the fact that each issue has its own title unfortunately makes it pretty much impossible to get a comic shop to "pull/hold" them for you. it seems to be a distributor problem; they can't tell that it's the same series & don't care cuz the sales #s are too low.

definately check out her site tho, lots of pics of other stuff she's made (mostly little sculptury things, many of which are for sale) and some cute downloadable fold-up thingies. the blog is interesting too, if just for the "slice of life in Singapore" aspect.

(if you haven't guessed i'm a huge FsC fan for almost as long as i've been a mr A fan... come to think of it, actually i'd bought at least one of her books before Aaron ever even published. my pc desktop has featured her art exclusively for years, too.)

I love love LOVE Fsc! <3 :D

but I've noticed throughout the years that it's much harder to get
her stuff/ find out stuff about her...
the closest comic shop to me now..is like 2 hours away...

and since I live in a very conservative portion of the U.S.....
most comic fans really only know about Marvel and/or DC..

her latest issue (i think it started w/ M) came out like 6 mo. ago, and the only comic shop within 100 miles (missouri is closer damn it!) never saw a copy. despite my specifically requesting one. the distributor simply isn't willing to bother with something so low-volume.

unless you get really lucky, direct order is the only way to go.

btw, does anyone remember the title of the little bitty picture book from around '98 or '99, mostly red cover, title started w/ Z? it was a story that managed to use pretty much only Z-words on the first page, all the way down to A on the last page. very wierd story (naturally), can't quite remember how it went, and i think mine's packed right now so i can't find it...
