I would do this, but I have no idea what steampunk is... I know, shocking isn't it.

Freaks me out quite a bit myself.

yea, that's a good example.

Also, The Japanese animes Steamboy and Metropolis are pretty good examples..

check out Abney Park and that site William the Bloody mentioned,
http://www.datamancer.net/steampunklapt ... laptop.htm

Also, like I mentioned, Porkshanks on Devart is a steampunk artist,
and she gives a good definition of what Steampunk means to people:

also suggested:
GirlGenius by "Profs." Phil & Kaja Foglio. a very light-hearted, romping "gaslamp fantasy with adventure, romance, and MAD SCIENCE!" It starts out in sepia-tone, but i'd definitely recommend starting at the beginning of the (eight-TPB-sized) series (i'm only up to vol. 6 so don't feel bad)

The SteamPunk Trilogy by Paul DiFilippo, old-fashioned text-on-paper stories, one of which includes a relative of "cousin Howard" P. Lovecraft

SteamPunk from Cliffhangers Comics, by Joe Kelly and Chris Bachalo. I found the story mostly unfollowable and tho the art is so complex as to be almost indecipherable as well, it's loaded with so many gorgeous details i bought all 12 issues & the #0 special just to look at.

The Difference Engine, a rather dense novel by William Gibson and Bruce Sterling, involving the original real-world steampunks, Charles Babbage and Ada Loveless

and so on and so on.

Don't forget The Wild Wild West, I don't care if it was a summer release/remake of a 1960's T.V show, it was the first bit of Steampunk I ever saw, (and I'm sure a heap of us saw it...).

Well... I think The Time Machine was, but all I can remember from that was footage of cliffs eroding and grass growing, which blew my mind.

Edit: Oh I have an idea for something too, I'll post a sketch in a bit.
