whatcha see is whatcha get ;)

anyway, he's sort of a trickster god in a world that's been germinating in my brain for a few years. loosely based on Egyptian Bes. his "symbolic" colors are grey and white, & i used the light in the tunnel thingy to play with shadow/light ideas: the sneaky grey guy in the shadows is nice & clear, while the bright light is a complete mystery. even *I* don't know what it is ;)

i was going to put a front panel on the loincloth with some of his favorite sacred symbols & stuff, but it didn't happen. so enjoy it, ladies (or gentlemen), if you happen to enjoy funny lookin' guys like that....

more soon!

okeeeee, i been workin so hard on on my poneeee that i'll put the latest here instead of "let's bloody well do something" whose topic has become "steampunk" instead:

here's prolly the final hand-rendered pencil version:
Image

i went & hand inked it on another page with a lightbox and a sharpie:
Image

just slapping the second on as a layer set to "darken" produced this:
Image
i haven't yet figured how to do much of anything with layers in photoshop & my computer with paint shop pro is still down so stuff like fitting them together better will have to wait 'til one of those problems is solved.

here are some rough scribbles of critters from the world where Gmlint-Seph lives. each drawing is made entirely from the symbol for a classical planet and a classical element:
Image
Image
Image

and here are some doodles from some time in 2000 or 2001:
Image
Image

thissun's so old i can't remember when i did it. i'm thinking high school, so that would be pre may '91:
Image

i specifically remember doing this one while sitting in the hallway waiting for an art history class in the first semester of my freshman year at UI, so it must be late '91:
Image

i think i did this guy around the same time, but i'm not sure. might've been high school:
Image

here's a picturephone shot of a guy i've been sculpting based on the monster from the intro to the halloween episode of Invader Zim. i'd hoped to have him done & painted in time for halloween this year, but....
Image

and here's a Zimmetty fanart i did a few months ago that i call "mutual brain probing = 2 drooling morons and 2 amused sidekicks":
Image

more when i get around to it :D

ok, some more stuff.

first up isn't my work at all, my sister did it for a birthday present instead of giving the theater the money in advance for a gift certificate. check out more of her stuff at http://www.lorikeehner.com
Image

i'm a hopeless geek for Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events. there, i said it. so a while back i started designing a mock-band t-shirt inspired by the books. maybe one day i'll actually finish it. personally i think the band name rocks on toast. and out of the dozens of "vfd eye" designs i've done, i like this one best.

if you hadn't already guessed, the other side says "The World Is LOUD here!"
Image
some more of those dozens i mentioned:
Image
Image
Image

here's a tattoo design i did for a friend with feline affinities and multiple personalities. i'm pretty sure she hasn't used it yet. i HOPE not, 'cuz i've got a new version that's way better but hasn't been scanned yet.
Image
this was the preliminary design for "razorback ronhilde", a custom miniature i made for the same friend; the final size was a little over an inch tall for the rearing war-boar. i ended up making it with the sword pointing upward and made of clear plastic, with an LED, battery & switch to light up the sword. the amount of work involved was just plain ridiculous, but the fun alone was more than worth it.
Image
and here's a sketch of the *character's* tattoo:
Image

here's a couple of Zimmety doodles i did straight off the screen. the first is an Alexovitch design, and prolly my favorite critter from the halloween episode. the second, from "taster of pork", is NOT aaron's, but i gotta love that piggie anyway.
Image
Image

here are some more drawings from waaaaayyyyy back in high school, like 1990 or something. damn i'm old.
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
most of these old ones are pretty sketchy but i likes 'em anywayz.

i like the pencilled version of the sera ponee drawing better than the inked one. my opinion.

i dig the way you draw those long, whippy tails like on the snakes and dragons and things. very nice, smoothe and confident looking lines!

also, the VFD egyptian eye shapes are VERY cool-ass.

All of them are very kickass indeed. :) I love the Egyptina eyes along with the razorback ronhilde pic.

i *do* have a thing for those long flourishy flourishes :) just imagine how they'd look if i'd actually *practiced* during the last decade! you'll see more along those lines when i get some of my lettering stuff up.

& yeah, i know the inking job was kinda lame. but i used a *sharpie* fercryinoutloud! i'm thinking that with the right layering & other stuff it could turn into something cool. i suspect that in the long run when i wanna ink something i'll prolly end up using the 3/0 windsor-newton and a bottle of india; i like the results that's had when painting miniatures.

& i agree: when the egyptian-style eye came in was when the vfd eyes *really* started getting interesting....

the finished Ronhilde mini lives in Florida now & i haven't heard from the owner in a while, but perhaps i'll manage to coax some decent finished pics eventually.

i was amazed at how many faves the piratical cockatoo got when i put it up on DA. the ninja lumberjack got quite a few too. i mean those are old, old stuff, older than some of the people on this board, older than some of the people who faved them. kinda wild.

here's the redo of the "pluribus" cat tattoo design:

here's the other half of the "virulent fatal disease" design above:

and here's one of my favorite lettering projects, inspired by Snicket once again. i made nifty wooden signs of this as presents a few years back. it belongs above every library door.

here's a little doodle that i think turned out pretty nice...
Image
and a *quick* colored version:
Image

that first one got faved on dA within minutes of being posted!

personally, i think they look better small, more like the original drawing, 'cause the perspective looks funny when it's all big:
Image [img]http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3322/3186079510_8a4ab99802_m.jpg
[/img]

and i cannot for the life of me tell you why that second shot isn't coming up.....

i'm working on yet another colored version with more smoothness, should have it up soon :D

Here's a variant on the colored pic above:

Image

or, once again, in smaller form in case you prefer as i do:
Image

any preferences between the two shading styles/methods? opinions would be considered interesting!

also, a sort of Mega-Advanced Super-Sir type thing i doodled. i kinda think it's sorta cool. but i promise, i never even noticed the monkey-resemblance until like a day after i drew it!

i like the super-sir's jet engines! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

also, as for comparing the colouring on mimi, they both look great, just emit a different look. the original makes her look (i dont know how to say this) not rusty, but worn? or maybe a stronger, grittier metal? the second one definitely has "brighter" colours, which makes her look more shiny and new.
they both do look great, but if i had to choose one, i choose the second, revamped one. to me, as a drawing, it looks practically ready for commercial use like on a toy package or one of the millions of other zim merchandising angles out there from stationary to t-shirts.

fanx fo'tha feedbax!

The jet legs were originally just to look cool and be flying; then i remembered even Gir has rocket legs, so now i'm justifying it by saying that the jets "look" more techy, advanced, y'know. Maybe i'll draw a standing version & force myself to figure out how they look that way.

re: the mimis, i'm leaning the same way: gritty looks extra tough, smooth looks extra "finished" or "professional" and makes it more hi-tech looking.

anyone else?
