i guess i'll post the work-in-progress for the Steampunk thingy over in Vulgar Picture land here too....

the first one's notable mainly for giving an impression of the blazing-headlights-effect and sepia-tone background i hope to have in the final work:
Image
bigger version:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3383/3223690778_4f1545e024_o.jpg

next one's hand-drawn, traced over the photos the who composite is based on, with extra bits drawn in:
Image
bigger:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3335/3231935603_9f6f151918_o.jpg

this one's pretty much current but without the bright lites & stuff...:
Image
bigger:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3081/3242287256_42138192fe_o.jpg

there should be some computer-generated flaming smoky stuff up top eventually, & hopefully a few more kewl details. Watch Vulgar-land!

one more:

all the extreme-texturey stuff'll get toned down, it's just easier to smooth it than to add "pop". & the whole thing'll get "inked" a bit to improve clarity.

Holy cripes, I just realised that I've made all the most recent posts here except for "Rumblings" and the Basement, and some of them are like two weeks old.

....i sure hope this isn't like one of those movies where the missing people start coming back, but *different*............

couple of recent thingies, not so much relevant to anything else:

Image
You don't need me to tell you which part is a blatant ripoff ;) Just a little size comparison study with goofy ad copy tacked on.

Image
Sort of a logo design thingy for a fancomic idea that keeps floating around my head (essentially, Zim: Ten Years Later)

the version in my sketchbook looks more like this, maybe not quite so dark. It's gamma-corrected etc. to compensate for the mediocre scan.

**ZOOLOGICAL RESEARCH**

You may recall the Cephalopodidae specimens I showed off a while back:
Image

Newly uncovered evidence indicates their range extends beyond the "Old Dutchman's Store" after all!
Image

While not photographic, this technical illustration clearly shows the distinctive features of what, due to different coloration, is likely a subspecies which I have, for the sake of convenience, dubbed Octopus gummicus rikkii.
(official nomenclature will have to wait until the International Gelatinous Cephalopod Taxonomy and Nomenclature Committee's next meeting, currently not yet scheduled.)

More evidence here! http://www.tavicat.com/ranklechick_oog01/D5652E55-56F8-4E12-B2B3-C4B173D767CA.html

Also excellent observational studies of feline behaviour: http://rikkisimons.livejournal.com/44908.html

WOW! I love your Mad Contessa Von Rubikoff!

So your going to overlay the sepia tone/ blaring light pic over the final colored piece? I like- I like! :D

I really love how you've captured the pure ESSENCE of Tess with one image.
She WOULD have a fiery locomotive from Hell. and she WOULD hang off the side ready to plow any unsuspecting passerby down. hahahaha! oh man.
I love her hair! :P
and it makes me smile so much that it says "Good" on the front...
and I'm not really sure why...:tooth:

Can't wait to see it when it's done!

not spiders, OCTOPI! both cool of course but spider-candy would need to be crunchy.... More importantly, follow the link & partake of the goodness that is made by Rikki & Tavisha!

& are you referring to The MAD Contessa Natalya von Rubikoff's Screaming Fiery Locomotive from Hell? 'sfer the li'l "steampunk" artsy-challenge-thingy in the "let's DO something" thread, Vulgar Picture district. been going on a while, but it *is* a pretty challenging concept

the red, glowy zim logo is cool beans, but i dunno i feel like it could only benefit from some straighter lines maybe? sometimes i think yes and others no.

also, are you familiar with the works of happy de guzman?

ok so seriously, how exactly *does* one do that clean-line slick-looking stuff? is it just a "you have to use Illustrator" thing?

what *I* do (and my methods are archaic and make no sense practical sense) is in Adobe Photoshop 7, which I use mostly, if you select the brush you want and click to make a dot, then hold shft and click somewhere's else, Adobe will connect the dots with a straight line. that's how i make straightened lines on my stuff. like i said, pretty old fashioned.
