Ok, but I can render it with different settings if you want, to make it fit in better.

IN OTHER NEWS:

The Ham Chamber has arrived! It is officially soiled by the filth of my grubby troll-hands! As is the complimentary goblin sent to keep it company! (or in case it needed a snack?)

Indeed!

I shall be expecting my complementary copy any day now :D

Which, as I'm sure our dear Mr. A. is aware, is one sweet-ass deal for him, 'cause $50 is a pretty primo rate for the original drawing for a *print*, ain't it? My, even $35 would be above average!

Yep, Aaron's one lucky guy.

No, *I* said I'd be happy to accept one in lieu of any intellectual property claims! My guess is he saved it as a surprise.... tho I am kinda wonderin' why he didn't just slip it in with the Kimmie originals that arrived Tuesday.....

But after all, Aaron's such a swell guy, I'm sure he wouldn't hold out!

Is that intellectual property thing a joke? I know how much you've talked against it, so I took it as a joke.

I'm getting the impression that you're really sore though, and are being passive aggressive in these "swell guy" remarks. You already got your part of the commission "deal" and I'm positive he really appreciates it, but don't get on his cojones about this print thing if he didn't already decide for himself to send you one.

Sorry if I misinterpreted your tone, I make that mistake.

Of course you're right, it's *ACTING*! {cheesy SNL grin here} Still, getting paid a commission for something & then selling prints IS a pretty good deal. It would be NICE to get one, especially when your one-of-a-kind original suddenly becomes a lot less one-of-a-kind.

If you really want sincere, I'll admit to a slightly "betrayed" feeling, considering that it wouldn't have happened without my request. And my $50, of course. I'm sorta trying to suppress that by hoping that it was meant as a nifty surprise-type thing. I'm kind of in the habit of letting that pass for optimism, anyway, since I don't *like* to think that people meant anything but the best. It's probably something to do with unrealistic expectations or something. I'm basically just a frustrated idealist hoping that paragraphs like this are pointless.

But those Kimmie originals *are* pretty sweet. It's amazing how much more you can see in them! Def'nally gotta get back to work on the ol' army of scribbles.

So you can't see how organic the process was from commission request to print? It seems to me like you requested it, Aaron drew it, Rikki saw it then colored it, and Aaron was like "hey this is very nifty, I'm pushing for new merch now that Vol 2 is over" and sells it. Yours is still very much one-of-a-kind. It's the original drawing in graphite, while people are only buying prints. Yours became less one-of-a-kind the moment you posted it up here, because anyone can print that sucker out.

I don't think you realize the way you come off when you try to behave in a positive way. The comment you left on the blog announcing the print was pretty caustic, and I'm sure I'm not the only person it rubbed the wrong way. The sunny sheen you put on things is a very thin veil.

We commission Aaron because he's incredibly talented and we love his art, but also to support him and future Serenity Rose. I think needling him for a handout IF he already didn't feel he should send you one is very inappropriate - and you picked a very awkward way to see if yours is in the mail.

heh, well I do realize how I come across.... I've just never found a way to avoid it & eventually gave up trying. Deep down I guess I'm just a troll.

And don't get me wrong, I think it's cool the pic developed into more, I'd just like to be included more often. Or at all. (sez the guy whose jaw dropped when yer CD actually *appeared* in the box..... thanks big time for that, believe me.)

I don't want to be a spoil-sport, it just comes so naturally it's hard not to. Best I can generally manage is to try to bend it into something cynically humorous, if you've got a really cynical sense of humor.

(all that being said, I really do appreciate your openness with that kind of stuff. [certainly more than I can *express*, anyway.] I don't have anyone IRL that I can trust to give honest opinions. & I've seen enough of YOUR stuff that came across similarly abrasive that I can believe you really do understand better than most folks. & prolly why I felt such a *need* to help Luis fit in, he reminded me so much of myself. So, Big Thanks, anyway..... hopefully this shitty mood will pass soon. Maybe March if I'm lucky.)

I'm really glad you said that, I felt a little sore that I was comin' down a little to hard and felt anxious about continuing this conversation, so I'm glad you said that.

I shoulda figured you're aware of your behavior, you're a smart guy, no reason you wouldn't be. Just catches people, or at least me, off guard sometimes. I'm sorry you're feeling down like you are. People need to be dramatic with each other, and have conflict and stuff, so I hope you feel more comfortable being more straight forward with the rest of us sometimes when we get on your nerves. I certainly can be pretty irritable, like you mentioned. Though maybe I'm subtle about it? I wasn't aware.

By the way Alpha, feel free to drop me a PM anytime. I don't got advice or nothing, but I got ears pretty good.

Dude, you're like that one in a thousand that at least has a *clue* what I really mean. Absolutely nothing there for you to apologize about! Basically, what I'm trying to say is, at least judging by what you said, you actually understand *perfectly*, both in the positive and negative ways. At least as well as *I* do, anyway ;)

I suppose it was just an emotional response. I don't really have the skills to clean up those sort of messes, or even to recognize if it's really a mess, so I'm just trusting that the folks involved are sensitive enough to see it for what it was. And I *think* they are, anyway..... anybody peekin' in, no hard feelings, okay?

(you may have noticed I don't really have much use for privacy..... it's just an obstacle for me anyway. All feedback is useful.)

A GOOD THING!

Postby alphatroll » Sat Dec 26, 2009 3:07 pm

I hope Aaron can deal with dropping to second place on my "favorite artists" list.....

Got this absolutely gorgeous print from (and by) my baby sister yesterday!

Image

(Klick-on for to see with biggerness!)

I dunno if it's been "officially" named, but for the time being I'm callin' it "secret garden". Even though there's obviously a little more than a garden. Still works pretty good, neh?

I'd seen it a couple of times in progress, and from the first time the incredibly powerful emotional impact was all there. (I also said so, both times, which is prolly why I got it.) In finished form it's even more effective; the brickwork just "pops" so much that you know exactly where you are, making the hidden scene and its meaning to the subject even clearer.

The scan's a little bit washed out so I dunno if it comes across on the screen, but looking at the actual picture, the brickwork, with that warm glow only seen in old bricks lit by a setting sun, looks so incredibly, vibrantly *real*, or eve "trans-real", that I want to taste it. (okay, not really taste, but something about moist tongue-prints on old brick has always fascinated me.....)

I hope it comes across at least *almost* as well as it does in real life. This is the most amazing bit of my sister's already awesome oeuvre that I've yet seen, and brings her straight into my *all-time favorite artist* position.

(So don't feel too bad, Aaron! I'm still buying your book! ;) )

Oh, and y'awl kin see s'more stuffs on her tragically infrequently updated website. I keep tellin' her she needs more net presence, but dang it she won't listen to big brother! (do check out the Textile work under "Fine Art"!)

   WOWIEE!!

Your sis has some MAD SKILLZ fo sho!

That print is stunning...it really is. and for me it really speaks to my heart, as cheesy as this may sound,
as an animal-rights supporter/ animal-lover and a vegetarian. :)

It's such a powerful scene and yet remains so simple and innocent..
I think those make the best pieces of art, though..
It seems like she really poured her everything into that piece, it does.

The rest of her work is equally as stunning...
I love those textiles...seeing textile work in real-life is something that just blows me away..
I'd love to learn to use a sewing machine well, so that I can do really nice textiles...
though many textile-artists just hand-sew their projects..Does she?
my hands are horrible for that, unfortunately..

Has she ever exhibited any of her work in a gallery?
or done any work for books? If not, she definitely should.

As for the whole wanting a print thing...
I can understand why you'd want one- as I'm sure had I commissioned him
only to discover that there was now a fresh, shiny, colored version of it floating aboot,
I'd prolly have conflicted feelings about it too..
I might have even asked him for a file of it so's I could print it myself :);
but yea, just as The Flying Dracula Hair said,
we're here to support Mr. A..
you've got the shiniest one of them all, even with it being b&w! ;)

Rikki has rights to it, as well.....so, it seems to me like the whole selling prints
thing is more for them than it is for Mr. A, anyways... :???:

Last I checked the Heart-Shaped Shop appears to be out of "Hamchamber" posters, but I'm sure I'll buy one eventually. I'm chalking that over-dramatic immediate reaction up to "artistic temperament" ;) Last I heard from Aaron he didn't *seem* to be holding any hard feelings, fortunately (I think it was on Twitter....).

And don't feel bad about your hand-sewing skills - she has access to a *quilting machine*, and uses it plenty. Like 12 feet wide that thing is, & totally *laser guided* or something. It's impressive anyway. (So was the price tag! Mom bought it so she could take on some at-home custom work, & Lori's never been one to pass up that kind of thing.)

She's done a *little* gallery showing, and got some illustration work for a niche-market publication; and the fact that I got a *print* of that one instead of an original suggests that something's planned for it. Good thing too, 'cause I was actually feeling kind of guilty about accepting it until I opened the frame. (Awfully fine quality print though! I wish those vibrant colors came through the scanner a little better!)

Okaaaaay, jeeeeez....

Posted this in "We all saw this coming" Jan. 04 (2010), which was already wayyyy late but I live in hell & the internet doesn't always work here so there.

But folks (aka Slinker) can't seem to find it there, so I'm reposting it here.

Happy?

Good. Now read on:

{REPOST STARTS HERE}

Slinker wrote:Happy other year to you! :)

I had quite a calm new years eve this year. Mostly me and a few friends drinking and eating a real nice dinner. I even made som effort by buying cheese and crackers as a some sort of desert. Cause...

"I'm just crackers about cheese!" :)

{LURVELY PIC OF WALLACE HERE}

I went to bed..... and woke up after the AWESOMEST NEW YEARS DREAM EVARR! Complete with zombies!

Started out in yer customary li'l old farmhouse in the country, nomnommers show up, fightin' 'em off for a while.... they seem to be gradually devouring the walls, we're all upstairs & fortunately they suck at climbing.... someone gets the idea to uproot the house from the foundation & haul it elsewhere (I vaguely recall tractors being involved).

We make it to the river, the house breaks up but the floors float like rafts, & apparently bitey folks can't swim. At some point it becomes obvious that authorities are all denying everything, so we gotta make it a big public splash so folks'll know. Li'l ways downstream there's a big suspension bridge that, if taken out, will not only keep the zomboids on the wrong side but is likely to get noticed too.

Turns out my uncle used to climb the support towers all the time when he was a kid, it's not allowed but you can make it if you know the way. And what's really weird is the suspension cables are on some kind of constantly moving system, lotsa pulleys etc, so if yer clever you can hold on & ride up.

Of course there's a bunch of us, & we have to haul some trucks or something up with us (to blow up the key point at the top.... idunno, it's got zombies already so it seemed reasonable), so of course we get noticed & cops are chasing us. Totally wild stuff riding these cables all over the place. This bridge musta been *huge*. Anyway, it's pretty dizzying stuff, and that's where I woke up, and I was still dizzy for like half an hour, as if missing the end wasn't bad enough.

But it was a helluva lotta fun anyways, I'd highly recommend it to anybody who enjoys zombies and exaggerated action sequences & incredibly unlikely last minute escapes and beating the interfering authority types and, of course zombies. Good solid 3 1/2 stars from me!

(yeah, i've been offline a couple days....)
