Subey was hinting at offering lessons on exactly that, before her mysterious disappearance..... Hopefully my snail-mail will produce positive results {fingers="crossed"}

been a leetle while....
here's the latest:

Image

another entry in The Monthly Gargoyles Art Contest, this month's theme was to take other Disney characters and combine them with gargoyles. i took Ariel and drew her as though she were some sort of mer-gargoyle creature. thing.
i based her wings off that of a flying fish, and modified her tail to match. I also gave her elbow fins and webbed fingers, which you can barely see. i drew the background completely on the computer, which is why that seaweed looks weird; my mouse hand ain't so steady. i coloured this using layers, and the colours are what i like about it most of all. i think it is very bright and cheery :-D
and you can VOTE for me between November 1 and November 15 here:
http://mgc.gargoyles-fans.org/vote.php
but i think i'm going to have a hard time to beat that Demona as Maleficent pic. That thing kicks ass.

Ha, ya threw me there for a bit, until i tried akshly *reading*.... I was about to comment that the way her hair's arranged makes it look oddly as if she has horns......

Aw, don't be silly, the seaweed looks wierd because it's underwater! ;) The secret to great art can be found in the phrase, "I meant to do that!".....

I mean, think about it.... you could have used vectors & stuff to make it perfect, but then you'd have to apply an 'underwater' filter to keep it from looking all out of place & stuf ..... you just skipped the extra steps. You should be *bragging* that you did that amazingly realistic random water diffraction effect entirely by hand! :D

heh.... fork!

well, i have a brush that made the subtle bubble effect, but yeah, the rest of the background was done by me... so glad you like it, then! thanks so very much.
might i add, i have never utilized vectors in my life and wouldn't even know eher to *start*.

You *start* by selecting a vector tool & then clicking around to see what happens! ;) Hell, I was practically born knowing calculus (which is a shame, since math rather bores me....), & that's still how I started!

yet another Gargoyle thing:

Image

yep, you guessed it, for the Monthly Gargoyles Art Contest, November 2009 edition. this theme was "where are they now?" since so much time has passed between now and when the series ended, what do you think has happened since? one of the rules was you HAD to include at least one canon character.
the purple Gargoyle above is Angela (canon) and at the show's end she was dating Broadway, so i figured the two might have made it all official and had some kids. i thought a simple "mother holding baby" pic got this idea across pretty well. and it helps me out too since it eliminate many of those pesky anatomy areas that don't like me.
i found two random images on Google that i used as references (one i think was Mary and Jesus), which helped in getting Angela's face to look even remotely good.
i didn't notice until i coloured it that Angela's left shoulder is positioned all wrong and i was too lazy to do anything about it at that point.

D: I didn't get to vote for your Ariel!

I personally think she should have won by far..*nod nod*

I really like the mother-child one too! That hair is awesome! :D
I think if the shoulder was extended past the baby-gargoye's face
it would have looked just fine..

I also think either you or Coda should have won the "Back in Time: 1800s" contest..
The person that won the "artistic" category didn't even draw gargoyles, did they?
They just look like a winged cat and dog to me :o
Nicely done, but kind of irrelevant don't you think?

well, thank ye!
however i knew that the Maleficent pic was going to win. it was too wicked not to. but i was hoping my Ariel pic would have done better than it did. ah well.

as for the 1800s contest, the dog and cat characters were probably adapted people from the novel into gargoyle form. one of the things from the gargoyle show is that there are often gargoyles that resemble mythical creatures from that region, so gargoyles from england can look like unicorns and hippogrifs and whatnot, and not necessarily lizard(?)-like or the "traditional" gargoyle physical appearance.
it was disappointing that there were TWO Jane Austen entries and yet one of them still won "most creative." (if more than one person thought of that angle i don't think it ought to be considered very creative, but what do i know?) i, too, liked Coda's Jack the Ripper entry. she did some nice little details on that gargoyle's dress :)

new comic:

Image

based on an actual conversation, with mildly edited ending.
and hey! there's ALPHATROLL'S Sting graphic! unfortunately, due to scripting it is mostly obscured by word balloons and heads :( but it does work perfectly with my living room template, so all future strips will have it, too.
thanks again, uncle alpha!

in case anyone was interested, my Gargoyle mother and baby pic TIED for "Most Artistic"! yay!!

now the new crap:

Image

this is for the VERY LAST Monthly Gargoyles Art Contest, December 2009. since it is the last one, they said entries can be from ANY past category. the one theme i was the most disappointed to have missed was for artists to draw themselves as a Gargoyle. that sounded fun.
i wound up doing an homage to one of my favourite self portraits, that of Normal Rockwell, as seen here (it's BIG):

http://williamsbloodyhell.com/rockwell.jpg

i always thought that was very creative. so i went with that basic premise, but made the mirror a magic mirror from the Gargoyles television show so that my reflection would be enchanted and Gargoyle-like.
this image has so many steps to it that in the end it doesn't look as good as i'd hoped it would and for all the work i put in. i think that i was just SO TIRED by the time i had it down to a black and white line drawing that i didnt put as much into the colours as i ought to have done. ah well. it's still pretty cool, tho.

THAT is absolutely AWESOME! :D
LOVE the expression!
The shape of the mirror is great too!
I personally really dig what you've done with the colors...
and you did VERY well with the lighting and such.
Flipping the image in the "drawing" was a nice touch too...
gives the image some nice visual "flow"..:)

Is this not being voted on? :o
