it will be. voting will run from january 1 to january 15th, as per usual. it prolly isnt uploaded yet onto the site either. that's pretty usual, too. :(

The shape of the mirror is great too!

ha, thanks. the "expression" is usaully what i look like when somebody says "smile!" at me. you get this really big toothy, psychotic grin in response.
as for the mirror, well that's MY favourite part of the pic. here's a glimpse at the mirror during stages of creation:

Image

it, uh, goes from right to left, obviously. it was made using basic shapes in Corel Draw, which were then combined into a bitmap and the excess lines erased in Corel Photo Paint. and back and forth until all the parts were in place. i had to do it in stages or else i'd get confused by all of the lines everywhere. the "art deco" details were made from several ovals, for example.

and here's a screencap of the 'actual" mirror from the episode of Gargoyles titled "The Mirror." for comparison purposes.

Image

i think mine turned out pretty okay :)

oh man....it's been far too long since I watched Gargoyles...
I want the box set so badly.
Looks like you spent a lot of time on that mirror. It looks really great!
esp compared to the actual version of it on the show!

Is it weird that mirrors give me the heebiejeebies?
I get so creeped-out when I'm around them sometimes...

I don't think I've ever used Corel Draw or Corel Photo Paint...
They seem to work pretty well for ya though..
I can see how the art deco design would give you trouble if it was made
out of several ovals, at first. :x
Was the original of the mirror...purple?
If so, what made you decide not to color it purple?

and I think it turned out way more than ok! :D

i THINK it's supposed to be like a silver-y. it was one of thiose things where i think the colouring on the show couldn't quite live up to it. maybe.

new comics!!

and the alternate ending!

the alternate second) comic is an actual conversation. i thought the first one with the fake/drooly ending was funnier, tho.

I like the alternate, feels more genuine, less contrived. :P

Hilarious though.
Kind of like when I realized I can go buy candy whenever I want.

oh hey i drew this:

Image

it's fan art for Jimmy Misanthrope's webcomic character Starla! teh comic can be read here:
http://www.thevortexmachines.com/

i think she came out pretty well! the tentacle-y background is actually a brush i downloaded call Tim Burton Swirlies which i got from here:
http://inobscuro.com/

like i was going to DRAW a tentacled monster in the background. yeah, right.

anyway, i like her expression and the hand holding the star-stick. that's a mighty fine hand, i tell you what. i'm disappointed that some of the colouring details were lost when the image got shrunked in size. i colour things while they are HUGE and it looked good, but now you can hardly see the swirl in the star or the purple eyeshadow. aw well.

I likeey! but.... shouldn't Starla have a *little* bit more in that skirt? ;)

The corner of her mouth seems a bit overstretched, at least compared to the level of naturalism of the rest (but then I suck at those kinds of details, so add salt).

Real nice legs tho! :D

you sir, are no fun, then. 8-)
it's what i like to call "an almost up-skirt," where you don't see any cheeks, but you feel like you just about could. bit of a tease, i know, but classier that showing panties, methinks.

alphatroll wrote:Real nice legs tho!

hence the short skirt! i actually DID draw a nice ass on her (i start all my figure drawing nekkid, as i'm sure many do), and was amazed because usually the asses i draw turn out square-ish or at odd angles or whatever, and to cap it off, her legs came out stellar as well, even tho they are from an angle at which I am not use to drawing people. so, i was nearly tempted to put her in pants to show off the ass, but i really, really wanted to draw nice goth boots on her, so, she ended up in a short skirt to show off her rather amazing legs. true story.
Mr Jimmy Miz gives the pic his thumbs up, which was the opinion i was most concerned about, seeingas to how he's her creator and all.

some more starla-faye fanarts!

Image

this is done in homage to the pic Jimmy Miz has a background on his twitter page:
http://twitter.com/JimmyMiz

i always rather liked it, and the other day i was positively desperate for something to draw, but didn't have the time to really plan or conceptualize anything. hence i sorta copied this.
i gave Jimmy a preview before i really worked too hard on it, allowing him an opportunity to tell me to knock it off if he didn't approve, but he liked it and was really supportive ^__^

Awesome! What's that thing Starla's leaning against? (if there was one in Jimmy's rendition I *totally* missed it...)

I'm thinking the 'skirt issue' is more of a style thing.... I prolly would've filled out the skirt a bit more, or at least gave it that *appearance*, but it seems you tend toward a slimmer look in general.

('*in* the skirt' I said, not overflowing it...!) ;-)

Ah, I see. Didja consider making a few feathers overlap the glass? Making the feathers a little non-uniform usually makes them easier to recognize.

You just got to explain to her that what she "refer" as depressive stuff makes us feel good.

I really think you should make your images bigger when there is so much dialog involved. :)
